National Competition for Pianello Val Tidone cemetery expansion, in archaeological area.
This project, made by Mauro Bellora and Luca Selvini architects, was brought at National Competition for Pianello Val Tidone cemetery expansion, in archaeological area.
Main feature of the competition is to live together a cemetery and a archaeological area. In agreement, the project, born from two observations about the site.
First of all the place orography, made of green grasses and hills as far as Rocca d’Olgisio, lead us to a hypogeal project without any emerging building over that. This choice allows also us to separate two path: the archaeological one at zero level and the cemetery one at –2.60 level.
Since we can’t know the plan of all archaeological remains, we use a flexible plan made of hypogeal block (consisting in about 45 burial recesses) laying on a underground path according to rotation of historical remains.
In this way we can distinguish two flows: visitor can chose if he should watch archaeological area at zero level or go down the stairs to pray at –2.60 mt. level.
Visitor can walk free on the roman area plan without follow any definite path, whereas the entrance to hypogeal block can be from archaeological level and from underground path that can be used also for corpses transportation and for disable persons access.
The area inside hypogeal block has room size. Every block contains a central service component, the cube, made of a fountain, two dustbin and a worktop.
Hypogeal block layout, as you know, depends on archaeological remains and on decisions about them restoration, in agreement with this flexible plan we can increase or reduce burial recesses according to Local Government.
