 Approach to Landscape Design
The relationship between the rural setting and the proximity of the Historically important Garden City of Letchworth is the starting point for the proposed site development. Phase 1 of the development forms a hinge between the open field plots to the North and East and the more domestic scale of the gardens and verges of Letchworth. To a certain extent ones’ view of the Burial ground landscape this year is an exercise in creative imagination. Areas of dense tree planting and screening are represented by small wipps, (which give no hint of the structure and order envisaged for the site), planed hedges are currently areas of small stocks with protective mulch ground cover, only the meadow area has established its self in the short time since project completion. The Chapel Building
The chapel building forms an intimate set of spaces. The highest point of the building is the roof of the entrance hall, which acts as an orientation point for the site. The main hall for meetings and services takes the form of an adjacent, contiguous structure. (…)

Prior to forming mæ Partner Michael Howe was design tutor and coordinator of technical studies at the University of Greenwich; he has worked for Matthew Lloyd Architects and Zaha Hadid Architects. Partner Alex Ely was Head of Sustainable Communities and Senior Policy Advisor at the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and previously an Architect with
Foster and Partners and Pierre d'Avoine Architects. Both Partners studied at the Royal College of Art and are RIBA registered.
