The European Heritage Days at the New Cemetery in Belgrade

Themed Walks at the New Cemetery on 17 September, 24 September and 1 October 2017

September is a month that is marked across Europe by one of the most popular and widely celebrated participatory cultural manifestation named the European Heritage Days which has been organized under the auspices of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the 50 signatory States of the European Cultural Convention. The success of the event relies on the great variety of heritage attractions on offer to visitors: alongside masterpieces of civil or religious architecture, it also features reminders of industrial or farming activities, parks and gardens, archaeological sites, furniture, and literary, fluvial and military heritage. All these monuments, as well as monuments which are regularly open to the public, offer special activities for the event: guided tours, skills demonstrations, concerts, theater performances and themed circuits.

Public Communal Company “Funeral Services” of the City of Belgrade
The Public Communal Company “Funeral Services”of the City of Belgrade has understood this traditional cultural event of the autumn as an ideal opportunity to highlight the importance of conservation, sustainable use, protection and popularization of the funerary heritage. High interest of our citizens for events traditionally organized within these days at the New Cemetery in Belgrade are proof of raising Serbian people’s awareness for the history and art that could be discovered and rediscovered at cemeteries.

In response to this year's theme “Heritage and Nature: A Landscape of Possibilities” giving the emphasis to heritage values embodied in nature and to the extent to which the environment shapes people's lives and lifestyles and its contribution to their well-being and socio-economic prosperity, the Public Communal Company “Funeral Services” of the City of Belgrade has invited people to connect to the New Cemetery and its urban nature site and to explore its diversity and cultural values.
