About the cemetery
Srandkyrkogården, also known as the Shore Cemetery, was officially opened on September 20, 1996. It is situated in the Skrubba district, roughly six miles southeast of Stockholm's city center, right beside Lake Drevviken.
Initial plans for Strandkyrkogården began in the early 1980s. Designed by architect Göran Bergquist, the grounds draw clear inspiration from the famous Skogskyrkogården in Gamla Enskede. Because Strandkyrkogården was intended to complement Skogskyrkogården rather than replace its facilities, no standalone chapel buildings were constructed on the site.
Across its 25 hectares, the cemetery combines open, sunny parks with quiet forest areas where the graves are located. In total, the grounds have capacity for approximately 20,000 graves. The main entrance sits along Gudöbroleden and features striking decorative granite blocks sourced from Göinge. Adjacent to the memorial grove, visitors can also find a dedicated viewpoint offering serene vistas over Lake Drevviken.
