About WDEC
Each year, within 1 week, cemeteries across Europe organize events and activities to raise European citizens awareness of the importance of significant cemeteries. Exhibitions, concerts, guided tours, seminars, workshops and other activities take place. It is the most important event and project of our association, exposing the cemeteries in a different perspective to all their visitors.
WDEC 2026: Quality education
Cemeteries are not only places of remembrance but also open-air museums and unique classrooms where history, art, and culture intersect. They offer countless opportunities for building a more sustainable future through education and knowledge. This is why the Week of Discovering European Cemeteries 2026, scheduled for 22–31 May, focused on the theme Quality education, in alignment with Goal 4 of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
