AGM 2020: A thank you from Milan

Milan, the original host of the AGM 2020, has recently sent a thank you gift to all ASCE members.

Due to the overall situation across Europe in the past year, the AGM 2020 in Milan, Italy, had to be postponed. Instead, a shorter online AGM was executed, during which the ASCE presidency met in Vienna, Austria, and led an online meeting with live broadcasting.

In July 2021, Milan, the original host of AGM 2020, sent a thank you gift to all ASCE members as a token of closeness and connection, and also as a symbolic re-invitation to meet, participate and exchange views.

The package included a special-edition guide of the Milan Monumental Cemetery which was created as a result of collaborative effort between the Municipality of Milan, Bracco Foundation and the Association Amici del Monumentale di Milano and represents a fruitful form of partnership and cooperation between the public and private sector and voluntary organizations.

We thank Milan for this kind gesture and hope to have the opportunity to attend an ASCE Annual General Meeting with them in the near future.

AGM 2020 report

On October 7th, 2020, the online ASCE Annual General Meeting took place with live broadcasting from Vienna (Austria).

After the postponement of the Annual General Meeting in Milano (Italy) due to the coronavirus situation, a shorter online AGM was prepared. In accordance with all safety regulations, the ASCE presidency met in Vienna (Austria) and led the online meeting with live broadcasting on October 7th, 2020.

The most important topics addressed were:

1. General Assembly (first call)

2. ASCE financial report for 2019

A very well balanced finances statement provides a secure future for general work of ASCE. Surplus of previous years is notable in financial assets of ASCE.

3. ASCE activities report

Overview of projects, activities, events and news from 2020. Among others:

• presentation of the online tool for membership overview and exchanging data
• presentation of new delegated ASCE Steering Committee Representatives that will help to promote ASCE in their region through different projects and gain new members of ASCE:
• Olaf Ihlefeld from Berlin, Germany
• Ian Dungavel from London, UK
• Sara Carlquist from Stockholm, Sweden
• presentation of new ASCE Scientific committee representative:
• Ioanna Paraskevopoulou from Athens, Greece (a PhD student at Harokopio University of Athens)   

4. New ASCE members

Presentation of new members who have joined ASCE between September 21st, 2019 and September 30th, 2020:

Discussion on projects and activities planned for 2021 and 2022 (among others the SunCemet photo exhibition) and a call to contribute news, event announcers, stories and other materials for the ASCE website.

ASCE Conference 2020: Call for papers

The theme of the ASCE Conference 2020 is "Connections, Participation and Partnership".

AGM 2020 conference invites you to Milano and its Monumentale cemetery, sharing experiences about connections, participation and partnership in cemeteries’ life, to be declined in time, space, professions, city activities, events, urban transformation and more.

You could participate at the conference by proposing a paper.

By June 1st the editorial board will select the most appropriate abstracts, will invite the authors to present their work at the conference and will share all the other necessary information requested about publishing and presentations.

AGM 2020: Save the date

This year's AGM will take place from 30 September to 4 October 2020 in Milan, Italy.

Annual General Meeting 2020 will take place in Milan on September 30 - October 4. (Please note the change in the dates as it was initially planned for September 23 – 28)

A splendid program is being prepared and you should mark the dates in your calendar to attend our most important annual event and conference.
